The greatest challenge is to convince
people, that disability is a civil rights
issue and that discrimination against
disabled must be recognized and stopped.
- A state level advocacy workshop had been
organized on " People's perspective: United
Voice for Disability Equity". The workshop
was designed as a dynamic exploration of how
people and the community can address key
issues where governmental apathy is causing
immense harm either way, both to the
disabled population and to the states
economy.
- A play was organized on the occasion of
World Disabled Day to sensitize the public
regarding violence against women and girl is
a crime against humanity.
- Inter School workshops have been organized
in different special and main stream schools
on "Domestic Violence and Rights Violation
of Disabled and Non-Disabled Girl Child."
- A rally was organized on the 25th of
November 2002 - International Day for he
Elimination of Violence Against Women. For
the first time in Orissa disabled women and
the girl child walked together on an issue
affecting all women.
- A 2 day convention on the world disabled
day, "Walk to Freedom" event at New Delhi
was organized by NCPEDP on the 2nd and the
3rd of December 2002. A team of 17 PWD
participants from Orissa led by the
Swabhiman Team attended the convention where
the Honorable President of India. Dr. A. P.J
Abdul Kalam personally met representatives
from each state.
- A disability awareness program was held at
Sangrampur Gram Panchayat in Erasama Block
of Jagatsinghpur, in November 2001, where
people with disabilities were informed about
the various concessions and other facilities
available both at the Government and
Non-Government levels. They were also
informed that 60% of them could cross the
boundaries of disabilitiesby right
intervention at the right time. A similar
meeting was also held in Dhinkia. |
