Right to life and liberty (Articles 10, 14 & 17)

  • Disabled people’s bodies and brains are their own and this should be respected by everyone.

  • Disabled people have the right to live, be free and safe as anyone else.

  • The State should make sure that disabled people have equal chances as anyone else in their lives.

  • Disabled people should not be locked up solely because they are disabled.

  • If disabled people are lawfully arrested, they should be treated according to this Convention such as being given information in an accessible mode. They should also have the same rights and immunities as everyone else has under other international laws.
